Ellie grew up in Dalhart, located in the Texas panhandle. Zane grew up in Elgin, located in Southwest Oklahoma. It was only right that their paths crossed at the most wonderful place on earth, Oklahoma State University.

Zane and Ellie met in the fall of 2021 at Braum's after the campus ministry they attend. They shared a firm handshake and then Zane proceeded to tease Ellie for ordering the same ice cream as him.

Though winter break took them 5 hours apart, the couple went on their first date the very day Ellie returned to OSU. They spent hours together just talking and laughing over a cup of coffee. This would become one of their very favorite things to do together.

The pair have been together for two years and have spent countless hours together over coffee, ice cream, OSU sporting events, and western and classic movies.

On March 16, 2024, Zane proposed in the little white house on the Fly ranch. It was the perfect day, the Lord providing much needed rain at the ranch. The hours before the big question were spent talking and laughing over a cup of coffee, which they will now get to do for the rest of their lives. Zane led the couple in a moment of prayer, in which he thanked God for His kindness and abundant blessing, and then asked Ellie to marry him. Ellie managed to speak the word "yes" before breaking into tears of joy for nearly an hour and a half. The pair went back to town to share a champagne toast with the Fly family, using the flutes her parents used on their wedding day!
